Haskins-Ybarra makes first court appearance

Eric D. Haskins-Ybarra was in court Feb. 23 at which time his next court appearance was set for Thursday, March 23 at 1:30 p.m.

Haskins-Ybarra, 27, is out on a $10,000 bond following a warrant for Robbery, two counts of Domestic Battery, and Malicious Cruelty to an Animal.

Special condition also set that he have no contact with the victim in the domestic battery charge.

Sumner County Project Prom Dress underway in Wellington

Sumner County Project Prom Dress is featured on the latest episode of Show and Shel. The non-profit fundraiser for after proms across the County had a sale this past weekend, and today, Feb. 20 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Another sale is coming up Feb. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Feb. 26 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. It is all taking place at 108 S. Wellington man arrested for dog abuse, domestic battery

Eric D. Haskins-Ybarra, 27, of Wellington, was arrested Feb. 1 on a Sumner County warrant for two counts of domestic battery, robbery, malicious cruelty to an animal and cruelty to an animal.

Haskins-Ybarra was released from the Sumner County Jail after posting a $10,000 bond which includes special conditions that he have no contact with the victim in the domestic battery charges.

Cowley College President speaks at Chamber banquet

Dr. Dennis Rittle, President of Cowley College took some time on Friday, Jan. 20 to address those in attendance of the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB Annual Celebration. Rittle spoke about his recent trip to Topeka and about the Sumner County campus project soon becoming a reality. Watch the entire speech in the video above.

Fire burns 600 acres in Sumner County

High winds and fire resulted in $2,500 loss of hay bales last week.

Upon arrival of fire personnel to a call on December 30 around 3 p.m. at 930 E. 10th Avenue, a grass fire was moving rapidly to the north due to high winds and burning around hay bales and a structure.

The grass fire proceeded to burn 600 acres and move almost two miles north before it was under control at 5:31 p.m. Firefighters remained on site until 7:50 p.m.
