It was Week #5 Friday night across the football lands of Kansas, the (3-1) IRONDUKES were at HOME after an unsuccessful road trip Week #4 to Andale. The Wichita Collegiate Spartans were in town, the evening was perfecto, no wind, nice temps and that sense of community always present on Friday nights at Sellers was intensified several times over as we together grieved and honored the passing of WHS Junior Stephen Jamerson, tragically lost in a motorcycle accident Thursday evening west of Wellington.
The weather was picture-book perfect Friday evening at Sellers Park for the 2016 Irondukes season debut, hosting their league opponent Clearwater Indians. Zero wind and awesome temps made at least that aspect of the evening pleasant and enjoyable. A large contingent of Crusader Fans were in the stadium, the west side nearly full with RED being the dominating color! Clearwater brought a good following of their own - burgers were frying and the atmosphere was set!
You know it's SPRING when you hear the bats a crackin' at both Hibbs-Hooten Field and Worden Park! You also know it's SPRING when gale force winds blow...30MPH gusts at Hibbs-Hooten, 500MPH gusts at Worden (estimate). :) The sun was shining though, perhaps a little brighter at Worden however, if outcomes affect that at all.
It was MEDIA PHOTO DAY at Sellers Park Tuesday afternoon before practice got underway for the 2016 WHS Crusader Baseball squads...the "DUKES" will take to the field for the first time this coming Monday vs Augusta. The Varsity Boys will play here at home in doubleheader action beginning at 4:00PM at Sellers Parks' Hibbs-Hooten Field. The JV Boys will take on the JV Orioles at Augusta beginning at 4:30PM (Rodney Wheeler Stadium)
Meet this year's team, JV and VARSITY
