I'm not sure what percentage of games involving #1 seeds vs #8 seeds lead to the latter's favor, Thursday night though, at the Haven Wildcat Classic, it was 100% of the time.
It was semi-final action in Rose Hill Friday evening for the Lady Crusaders, Lady Vikings, Lady Rockets and Lady Wildcats. In the opener, our very own WHS Lady Crusaders pulled away in the 2nd half vs Winfield, much like the Crusaders on Thursday did vs Rose Hill. Up only 4 at half, the Wellington girls Friday doubled their score by 3rd quarters' end and added another 15 down the stretch to defeat the Lady Vikings and send them packing for another year, final score Wellington 57 Winfield 38.
The WHS Lady Crusaders lost a heart breaker in Salina Friday evening after waiting an extra day + to play in this year's wet State 4A Softball Tournament.
After falling behind early, the Lady Crusaders chipped away at the deficit but in the end Independence slammed the door and prevailed 11-7.
The 2016 STATE 4A DIV 1 SOFTBALL BRACKET has been released. Wellington's Lady Crusaders (17-5) are the #4 seed and will go up against #5 seed Independence (17-5) on Thursday, May 26th at 7:00PM. The tournament is being played in Salina at the Bill Burke Complex located at 1501 E. Crawford.
Mother Nature left a half inch of rain behind overnight Sunday, causing postponement of the baseball games on slate at Sellers (both Hibbs-Hooten and 9th St. Diamond) on Monday vs Andale. Out west however (Worden Park), the scheduled varsity and jr. varsity softball games vs Andale would be played and the outcome would be similar for everyone all the way around, all squads went home 1-1 on the evening.
A great weekend for WHS BASKETBALL!! The Lady Crusaders in a very exciting fashion, hauled in the 3rd place trophy at this year's STATE 4A DIV 1 GIRLS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT in Salina! As you all know by now - a last second BUZZER BEATER by Lauryn Snipes after a fabulous block and steal by Shayland French, resulted in a 25+ foot 3 pointer that created Pandomonium for Crusader Fans everywhere as it dropped through the net AT THE BUZZER and secured the win vs Labette County, 65-62! A big woo-hoo for that, a really big woo-hoo!! :)
With an undefeated "regular" season on the line, the Wellington Lady Crusader Varsity basketball squad made history Thursday evening at Clearwater, snagging their 20th regular season win with ZERO losses - final score Wellington 70 Clearwater 27. The Lady Crusaders hit the floor running and never looked back. By halftime the lead had stretched to nearly 30 points and it surpassed that mark early on in the 3rd, causing (by rule) for the clock operator to "let 'er run" when the 4th qtr began.
It was the Crusaders vs the Crusaders Tuesday evening out at Wellington High School as Buhler paid a visit to the home of the "Wellington" Crusaders for some non-league roundball after the conclusion of the mid-season tournaments for both the boys and the girls.
