Weather forecasters as we all know, sometimes miss a forecast or two, especially those that extend very far into the future. This week, they nailed it. On Tuesday and since, we were told there would be T-storms. strong northerly winds and dropping temps in Scott City early Friday evening. Bingo, bingo and bingo.
The weather was picture-book perfect Friday evening at Sellers Park for the 2016 Irondukes season debut, hosting their league opponent Clearwater Indians. Zero wind and awesome temps made at least that aspect of the evening pleasant and enjoyable. A large contingent of Crusader Fans were in the stadium, the west side nearly full with RED being the dominating color! Clearwater brought a good following of their own - burgers were frying and the atmosphere was set!
Head Football Coach Tyler Ryan tendered his resignation today and along with his wife Stephanie who teaches at Lincoln Elementary, will return to Holton, KS this coming school year and both will teach there. Coach Ryan did his student teaching at Holton and helped coach football there for 2 years before leaving for Wichita East, then Wichita Trinity and then Wellington.
The last three weeks of regular season, well, are "the season", if you get right down to it. Doesn't matter now what ya did 5 weeks ago or even 2 - all that matters now is what you goin' do the next 2?
The IRONDUKES cruised through week 1 of district play, downing the Rockets of Rose Hill 44-20 @ Rose Hill before a noticeably small crowd. Wellington jumped out to a 22-00 lead somewhat quickly and maintained a comfortable margin throughout, moving to 4-3 overall, 1-0 in district play with 2 more games to go before post-season.
It was road trip time Friday for the Irondukes - the last road trip had ended in a loss - this one wouldn't.
