Early morning rain on Saturday was totally forgotten by race time Saturday afternoon down in S. Woods Park for the running of the 2016 Great Race (or Slate Creek Depot Race), a tradition (with a hiatus because of fire) since the late 70's.
This day will go down as one of, if not the best Slate Creek Relay ever. In a photo finish, the Anders Spinalators (in red) took first place narrowly edging out The Dore Enchies (in lime green). First place time was 44.048 and second was 44.057, see video of the finish below.
Immediately following the finish, speculation swirled around the start/finish line. Camera operators were all comparing their shots and angles in an effort to see who won.
The Slate Creek Relay, otherwise known as The Great Race will take place for the 26th time in Wellington Saturday, July 30 in Woods Park.
Race Master, Jack Potucek was in Studio this week to talk about the race on “Show and Shel” with Shelley Hansel.
