Wellington Fire/EMS talks Daylight Savings Time

WELLINGTON, Kan. -  A reminder to residents to change household smoke and carbon monoxide alarms batteries this weekend when Daylight Saving Time begins.

Clocks in North America “spring forward” one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 12. Consider your household  alarms to be the most important clocks that need to be changed. Having working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms can save your life, and help keep your family and your property safe from fire and carbon monoxide.

Two fires in Wellington June 8

The Wellington Fire and EMS Department responded to two small structure fires on June 8.

At 4:22 p.m. The first fire was reported at 705 N. Jefferson, property owned by Marcia Dugan. Firefighters arrived to find two outdoor storage sheds on fire. It didn't take long to get the flames under control, but there was a $5,000 loss to sheds and their contents. The cause of this fire is undetermined, states a press release from the fire department.

Mark Farley retirement party

March 18 was a big day at the Wellington Fire and EMS Department with a reception for Mark Farley, who is retiring from the department after 34-years of service.

Shelley Hansel and the “Show and Shel” crew crashed the party to talk to Farley, his family and co-workers about his time with Wellington Fire and EMS. Watch the entire interview in the video above.
