Crusaders down Vikings in Game 1 District Play

Create: 10/14/2017 - 00:31

It's been 7 years since the Crusaders emerged from district play and advanced on to post-season action. (It's been almost 2 calendar years to the date since we won a district game at all). Friday night in Winfield, they moved closer towards that end, (post-season), winning the first 2017 district game 14-7 over the Winfield Vikings, coached by former Crusader Head Coach Linn Hibbs, chalking up more offense than they had since week #2 vs El Dorado. On the down-side, Sr. QB Cade Phelps went out the 2nd qtr with an injury to his left knee.

Similar STATS Dissimilar OUTCOMES...

It was season opening time (@ HOME) for the Wellington Crusader Varsity Baseball Team Friday evening, playing in make-up games vs Collegiate, a double-header that had been postponed just 2 days earlier due to rain. If you looked at most of the STATS you would erroneously conclude the final scores were relatively close. Both squads played near error free baseball, both squads had 10 or11 hits a piece, both squads had multiple base runners but both squads didn't score 14 cumulative points on the evening, just Collegiate.

It was semi-final action in Rose Hill Friday evening for the Lady Crusaders, Lady Vikings, Lady Rockets and Lady Wildcats. In the opener, our very own WHS Lady Crusaders pulled away in the 2nd half vs Winfield, much like the Crusaders on Thursday did vs Rose Hill. Up only 4 at half, the Wellington girls Friday doubled their score by 3rd quarters' end and added another 15 down the stretch to defeat the Lady Vikings and send them packing for another year, final score Wellington 57 Winfield 38.

Has there ever been a game featuring two 0-6 teams with more intrigue than there is this Friday, in what could be considered the “real” Wellington homecoming game, when Winfield comes to town? Former Crusader Head Coach, Linn Hibbs, is in his first year coaching at “the other” WHS.

VERY HONORABLE Weekend For Wellington Basketball...

A great weekend for WHS BASKETBALL!! The Lady Crusaders in a very exciting fashion, hauled in the 3rd place trophy at this year's STATE 4A DIV 1 GIRLS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT in Salina! As you all know by now - a last second BUZZER BEATER by Lauryn Snipes after a fabulous block and steal by Shayland French, resulted in a 25+ foot 3 pointer that created Pandomonium for Crusader Fans everywhere as it dropped through the net AT THE BUZZER and secured the win vs Labette County, 65-62! A big woo-hoo for that, a really big woo-hoo!! :)

Regular Season ends for Crusader / Lady Crusader Basketball...

Create: 02/26/2016 - 00:05

With an undefeated "regular" season on the line, the Wellington Lady Crusader Varsity basketball squad made history Thursday evening at Clearwater, snagging their 20th regular season win with ZERO losses - final score Wellington 70 Clearwater 27. The Lady Crusaders hit the floor running and never looked back. By halftime the lead had stretched to nearly 30 points and it surpassed that mark early on in the 3rd, causing (by rule) for the clock operator to "let 'er run" when the 4th qtr began.
