WELLINGTON, Kan. -  A reminder to residents to change household smoke and carbon monoxide alarms batteries this weekend when Daylight Saving Time begins.

Clocks in North America “spring forward” one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 12. Consider your household  alarms to be the most important clocks that need to be changed. Having working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms can save your life, and help keep your family and your property safe from fire and carbon monoxide.

Residents should test alarms once a month and change batteries routinely in the spring and fall when clocks are changed. Replacing a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm that is more than 10 years old is recommended.

If you are in need of a free combination smoke/carbon monoxide alarm call the Wellington Fire/EMS Department at 620 326-7443 to schedule a time to have one installed
