WALK-IN Weather PERFECT - except for the wind

Create: 04/23/2017 - 11:21

Mother Nature is playing havoc with this SPRINGS' outdoor sporting activities...on Friday, that trend continued when "EVERYTHING" scheduled was either postponed or cancelled! (We're running out of days for make-ups!) Varsity Golf and Tennis, both originally slated for Friday were moved to this coming Wednesday. The "C" Team Baseball game which had already been moved once, was postponed and no make-up date has been announced and bigger yet, the Track & Field Meet at Clearwater was postponed and the word is, most likely cancelled.

Thursday evening however, before the rain moved in, it was a wonderful evening in Wellington, sunny skies, moderate temps and a north wind with a little bite but not much. There would be no brooms out on Thursday though as neither the Varsity Baseball or Varsity Softball squads could pull out a SWEEP, respectively at Hibbs-Hooten and Worden Park vs Mulvane. Everyone went home Thursday as WINNERS and LOSERS.

In the varsity baseball opener, down 5-6 in the bottom of the 7th, Cade Phelps busted a walk-off double scoring two runs and the win! In their nightcap, enough "mo" didn't show and the Crusaders were run-ruled in 5 innings, 11-1. Meanwhile, across town, another SPLIT with the Varsity Girls, losing in their opener 5-6 but coming back in the nightcap with a 4-3 victory.

On Monday, road trip time for the WHS Diamond Dwellers - both head north to their CRUSADER COUNTERPARTS in Buhler! GO BIG RED!!

Mother Nature DID COOPERATE (she always does - knock on wood!) with PROM associated activities Saturday afternoon and evening. After a period of rain on Friday and Friday night, conditions improved by Saturday afternoon, the sun peeked out and if not for a north wind, the weather would have been PERFECT for the arrivals and walk-in behind WHS as PROM 2017 (Dancing the Night Away) got underway. Even with the wind, pretty nice considering what it could have been just a few hours earlier!

Nearly 50 couples enjoyed an evening of fine food, dancing, fine company and more - then afterwards, a great time at the annual PROJECT PROM, this year held back on home turf at WHS with tons of food, games and prizes. The decorations for both the PROM itself and PROJECT PROM afterwards, superb - they always are. Mrs. Karla Lawless heads up the PROM event every year at WHS and comes up with exquisite and unique ideas that make the overall event just that much more memorable and enjoyable! Kudos to all of them and the PROJECT PROM folks who toil long and hard with the same outstanding results.

Jayden Dycus and Mallory Barker were crowned the 2017 Lord and Lady of the Prom, a tradition that began back in 1968! The following are links to many of the pics from the event - enjoy and get some rest too!! :)
